ORAL HISTORY NEW SOUTH WALES
REGIONAL ENGAGEMENT GRANT

This grant aims to raise the profile of oral history in regional areas and extend its expertise and use throughout New South Wales. Amount: up to $1500 on a biennial basis*

Eligibility:

This grant is aimed at librarians, archivists, museum curators, artists, film-makers, independent oral historians or community groups based in regional areas in NSW who wish to develop an oral history project that illuminates some aspect of their regional area which is of significance or interest to others.

This grant may be used in conjunction with other applications for support from other funding bodies or as a separate pilot study before larger grant applications. See possible larger grant details on the Oral History NSW website.

Applicants must be members of Oral History NSW to be eligible to apply for this grant.


Purpose and Use:

The grant is designed to assist regional members of Oral History NSW to bring their ideas for oral history based projects to fruition through additional training, project costs or mentoring assistance. For example, 1-2 experienced oral historian(s) might travel to the regional area to run a workshop; or provide advice on the project proposal and implementation. (The grant is not to be used to pay professional service fees but it could cover presenters’ travel costs, accommodation and per diem if a workshop if held.) The grant could also cover other costs associated with the project such as travel, or any required venue or equipment hire.


Outcomes:

The grant recipient is required to write a final report on their use of the grant which will be shared via Oral History NSW’s communication channels (website, newsletter and social media) within 12 months of receiving the grant. The grant must be used in its entirely within 12 months after it is awarded.

The recipient is also required to archive the oral histories in an accessible public institution. Oral History NSW may assist the grant recipient to identify and approach an appropriate institution.


Applications must:

  1. Include a description of their intended project ( half page maximum).

  2. Describe what is new about this project and how it will add value to any oral history work that has already been done on the topic ( one page maximum).

  3. Indicate plans for how the grant will be used, and whether any specific personnel training is proposed and why.

  4. Specify the period of time this project will be carried out, including the proposed start date.

  5. Include a rough proposed budget for the project.

Applications must be submitted in a single Word or PDF document.

Applications are currently open and will close 30 August 2024.

All applications will be assessed based on merit. Oral History NSW reserves the right to not award a grant if applications received do not satisfy all criteria or reflect the required standard.
Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their application by 1 October 2024.
Note that only one successful application will be selected as the grant recipient.
